Terms of use
Last updated: 5 November 2026
In short
- Taallum is for people aged 18 and over.
- You can study without an account; with one, your progress follows you on the phone and the web.
- The Qur'an text comes from the Tanzil Project and is never changed. The lessons, exercises and explanations are ours.
- Tutor (the AI assistant) is a helper; it does not take the place of a human teacher. Its explanations can be wrong, and they are not a religious ruling or fatwa.
- Keep your account safe: never share your password.
- You can delete your account at any time from Profile. If you break the rules, we may suspend it.
- Taallum is free during the pilot.
The details follow.
Who we are and these terms
Taallum is provided by Techdecision Ltd (company number 10909776, 17 Green Lanes, London, N16 9BS, United Kingdom). These terms are the agreement between you and us, and cover the Taallum app and taallum.online. Questions: info@techdecision.co.uk.
You read and accept these terms when you first open the app, and when you open an account or enrol in a course on the website. If you do not accept them, do not use Taallum.
How we process your data is in the Privacy notice (taallum.online/en/privacy). These terms do not replace it.
Your account
- Age. Taallum is for people aged 18 and over. When you first open the app (or, if you already use it, the next time you open it), when you open an account in the app and when you enrol in a course on the website, you confirm that you are 18 or over. If you are under 18, you may not use Taallum, with an account or without one.
- Studying without an account. You can use the app without an account. Your progress is kept under a random number that does not know your name or email. If you change phones or delete the app, that progress may be lost; open an account to keep it. A record that never finished a lesson is deleted after 30 days, and one that did, 12 months after it was last used.
- True details. Your name and email address must be yours and correct. Do not open an account in someone else's name.
- One person, one account. Your account is yours alone; do not share it.
- Security. Keep your password secret. If you think someone has used your account without your permission, reset your password and write to us.
What we offer you
- Lessons. We teach Qur'anic Arabic through daily Missions: explanation, words, sentence practice, questions and review. The placement test suggests where to start; you can always choose to start from Lesson 1.
- Tutor (the AI assistant). A helper that explains where you are stuck in a lesson. Every explanation it generates is marked as AI-generated. It can be wrong; it does not take the place of a teacher, a scholar or a commentary, and it gives no religious ruling. Tutor never writes Qur'an text itself; verses are always shown from the Tanzil text, with their reference.
- Classes with a teacher. You can join a teacher's class with a code or by enrolling on the website. Your teacher sees a weekly summary of your progress (what they see is in the Privacy notice). Live lessons take place on another service, through the link your teacher shares, and that service's own terms apply.
- Fees. Taallum is free during the pilot, and we never ask for payment details. If a paid part is ever added, we will tell you its price and terms clearly before you agree to them.
- The pilot. Taallum is being tried with a small number of students. Content and features may change during this time, and some lessons may not be published yet.
Rules
Use Taallum only for your own learning. Do not:
- try to get into someone else's account, or act in someone else's name;
- overload the app, the website or the servers, try to get round security measures, or try to decompile or copy the software;
- download, copy, sell or publish the lessons, exercises or explanations in bulk or on another service;
- send Tutor or a teacher messages that are unlawful, harassing or hateful, or that hold someone else's personal details;
- use Tutor for anything other than your lessons, or try to make it break its rules;
- try to make content that shows the Qur'an text altered or incomplete.
Content and rights
- The Qur'an text. The Qur'an text comes from the Tanzil Project and is shown exactly as Tanzil publishes it, never changed (under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence; in the app, Profile → Sources and licences; on the website, the Sources page). It is never generated by AI.
- Our content. The lesson explanations, word cards, exercises, questions, explanations, design and software belong to Techdecision Ltd or are licensed to it. You may use them for your own learning; you may not copy, sell or publish them elsewhere.
- Teachers' content. Lessons and documents a teacher makes belong to that teacher. They are shown only to the students in that teacher's class, and the same ban on copying applies to you.
- What you give us. Your practice answers and progress are your data; we use them only to teach you (Privacy notice). If you send us a suggestion or feedback, we may use it to improve Taallum without paying you for it.
- Accuracy. The platform's lessons are checked by a named person before students see them; a teacher's own lessons are that teacher's responsibility. If you still spot a mistake, please tell us.
Changes, suspension and closing your account
- You close your account. You can delete your account at any time, without giving a reason, from Profile → Delete account. Your account and progress are deleted at once and permanently (for backups, see the Privacy notice). Before that you can take your data with Profile → Download my data.
- Suspension. If you break these terms seriously or repeatedly, we may suspend or close your account. Where we can, we will warn you first and tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, write to info@techdecision.co.uk.
- Changes to the service. We may change, improve or remove lessons, features and the app. If we close Taallum altogether, we will announce it on this website and in the app at least 30 days before, and give you time to download your data.
- Changes to these terms. We publish any change on this page and update the date at the top. After an important change, we ask you to accept the new text the next time you open the app or the website. If you do not want to, you can delete your account.
Liability, complaints and law
- The service. We provide Taallum with reasonable care and skill. We cannot promise it will run without interruption or error; it may sometimes be unavailable because of maintenance, connection problems or our providers.
- Learning outcomes. Taallum is a learning tool. It does not promise that you will reach a level, pass an exam or gain a certificate. For a religious decision, ask a scholar or a source you trust.
- Our liability. We do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by these terms. Beyond that, we are not responsible for losses that could not be foreseen, or for losses from using Taallum for business or commercial purposes.
- Complaints. If something is wrong, write to info@techdecision.co.uk; we aim to answer within 14 days. For complaints about your data, see the Privacy notice.
- Law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts.
